My UX Design Internship at Wijstudio

Overview:
Wijstudio is a small strategic design agency at Bos en Lommerplein in Amsterdam-West. Wijstudio is known for its focus on meaningful design and user-centric solutions. They handle everything from user research, brand and communication strategy, to UX design, web design, campaigns, and graphic design. Not only do they conceptualize these ideas, but they also bring them to life, delivering products such as websites, digital designs, and printed materials.
As an intern at Wijstudio, I contributed to a range of projects: from redesigning web-pages for their customers to making a custom Figma wireframing library for Wijstudio. They provided an opportunity to deepen my skills in software such as Figma and Adobe XD and UI/UX design. Wijstudio also gave me the opportunity to sit in on client meetings to learn how they work with new clients.
Responsibilities:
• Developed a custom Wijstudio wireframing library in Figma.
• Assisted in designing user-friendly interfaces for client websites with Adobe XD.
• Developed prototypes and wireframes using tools like Figma and Adobe XD.
• Participated in meetings with (potential) clients about new or running projects.
• Conducted research on Wijstudio's clients' websites, focusing on UX, content, and visuals.
• Created sitemaps and web-assets for clients.
Achievements:
• Improved workflow efficiency by successfully creating the Wijstudio wireframing library in Figma.
• Successfully completed redesigns for the websites of multiple clients, improving their UI/UX design and thereby enhancing user engagement.
• Gained skill in Figma and Adobe XD through hands-on experience. I work a lot more efficient now, especially in Figma, by learning a lot of shortcuts and getting familiar with more functions.
• Gained skill and confidence in the contact with clients.

Impact
This internship significantly enhanced my software skills, especially when it comes to Figma. I learned a lot about the internal processes of a small design agency, such as Wijstudio. For example: how new projects are recruited, how new clients are interviewed, and how they work together with various companies and freelancers in various projects. It also strengthened my skills in collaboration, rapid prototyping, which I continue to apply to current and future projects.
On my last day, I was told by Wijstudio's lead UX-designer, that the custom-made Figma wireframing library I made was really useful for them and would save them a lot of time. I am really happy I had this impact for them as well.
